What time zone is the REST training course?

The course is listed on the website as starting at 9 AM. This is Eastern Standard Time (EST) but will be different if you do not live in EST zone. It is your responsibility to figure out the time change depending on where you live.

Do I get CEUs for the REST training course?

Accepted Answer

Yes, 0.8 Advanced ASHA CEUs. If you want ASHA CEUs reported for you, you will be able to claim these at the end of the course that day.

I have colleagues who want to get trained, too.

Yes, we highly encourage colleagues to take the course together. A discount is available for those who register as a group. You do not all have to take the same course to receive the discount. Use the discount code "GROUP" at checkout. In the space for "phone number" please list the name of your facility/hospital system that your group is registering from.

A few of my colleagues who want to get trained can't attend the course the majority can - what do we do?

Similar to ASHA presentations, there will not be copies of power point slides provided but there will be a summary handout with the REST protocol, references, and key discussion points emailed to you just ahead of the webinar.

How do I know that I’m doing the REST protocol correctly?

By taking the REST training course through Esophageal Co-Lab! Enrollment provides in-depth review of anatomy and physiology related to a complete swallowing assessment. Learning from a colleague who has taken the course may negatively impact ability to review and judge the nuances of bolus flow – which is part of consensus reliability.

Why is reliability and consensus training emphasized for REST?

Esophageal swallowing is not often a target of graduate level education. And thus implementation of an esophageal clearance protocol requires specialized instruction and visual training.

How is REST different from a high-resolution esophageal manometry (HREM)?

REST is not a diagnostic esophageal motility assessment; instead, it provides an overview of esophageal bolus flow in the upright position and can elucidate obvious movement abnormalities that may be contributing to a patient’s symptoms.

No! The REST training discusses this in detail and helps the clinician make an informed decision based on the whole patient and their unique case on what is documented, how that is interpreted, how the patient is counseled, and what next steps should be.
